Xanthosoma Violaceum- "Violet Giant" Is a beautiful foliage plant and is grown all over the tropics as a food plant. It is very variable but typically a plant with tuberous rhizomes and elegant leaves on a long stem. The stem is dark purple in color and this color is extended to the veins on the underside of the leaves. It is widely grown in Nepal and through the Himalayan range up to northeast India. Found growing in forest areas close to cultivated land where it is cultivated for food and fodder for cattle and pigs. Agave Tequila- Used throughout Latin America in the making of "mescal", this handsome plant can grow to 12 feet in diameter and as tall as 10 feet, when provided with the proper outdoor environment, but can also maintain itself in a smaller container, indoors or on a patio as well. The leaves which are a bluish green, are thick and fleshy, with spiny margins. A strikingly uniform and erect agave with a terminal spine that is large and amazingly sharp. Flower spikes, which appear anywhere from age 12 to 20, can reach 18 to 25 feet. This is THE AGAVE to give to the man in your life or maybe it's the agave to plant between you and your "neighbor". Given the proper conditions and climate Silver Madagascar Palms have been known to reach 17 - 22 feet in height and as much as 6 feet across but will remain small when confined in a smaller pot.
