Tropical
Ficus
Mighty in size or minutely small,
the family of tropical Ficus vary from one end of the spectrum to
the other. Tropical Ficus is a very large genus of over 800
species consisting mainly of trees, shrubs and clinging vines.
Found through out the tropical world, these plants are primarily
evergreen. Almost all species have a sap that is thick and
milky and in some species it has been utilized for making rubber,
these we call rubber trees. Some of the worlds largest trees are
Ficus, not for the height but for the girth, as most of these
plants produce aerial roots, that when they reach the ground,
develop into supporting trunks for the branches above. Any one of
these plants will be a grand addition to your tropical collection. |
